Modern Warfare 3's Controversial Bomb Scene With Little Girl
Infinity Ward has done it again. Following the controversial 'No Russian' level from Modern Warfare 2, the sequel ups the bad-tatse ante. But how exactly do you top a sequence in which an airport full of helpless civilians are systematically slaughtered by machine-gun toting terrorists? Easy! You kill a little girl. With a bomb.
Expect the usual moral hysteria and manufactured outrage from The Daily Mail tomorrow.
The video is below if you want to watch it. In the event that the footage gets taken down by Activision, I will briefly describe the video. Needless to say, avoid if you want the game to remain spoiler free.
(A father - obviously an American tourist - films his wife and daughter as they enjoy the sights of London. The little girl skips ahead of her mum to shoo some pigeons on the corner of the street. A large white truck pulls up beside her. The driver hastily exits the vehicle and disappears from shot. Moments later the truck explodes, instantly killing the mother and her child.)

You know what would have been more shocking? If a school bus of orphans ran into a store full of puppies and exploded.
ReplyDeleteYour move, Infinity Ward.
No Russian is much worse.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, I think this scene is pretty brutal.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really bad, it's not like they make US drive the bomb into position and kill the girl. And there was a woman there too, but no one has sympathy for her- it's all about the child >_<
ReplyDeleteMovies do this kind of thing all the time. It's no big deal.
ReplyDeleteSo they decided to finally use the kill a kid in a videogame move...
ReplyDeleteNot that bad, it's not as if you make the girl explode, as little interest I have in MW3 it's supposed to be gritty, and reflect the seriousness of war with "terrorists" in this day in age.. not be full of cuddles and rainbows. Though I do agree, a tad tasteless, but I'm not going to get angry and shed tears over a fictional pile of pixels, which are now.. over there, over there, and up there.
ReplyDeleteadditionally, it's no better/worse than what you can see in movies. I've watched movies where you see children mowed down by machine gun fire, hell there was a TV show about the war in Iraq where you see a kid get shot with a .50cal rifle, people love to take this stuff so damn far for some stupid reason, at least they didn't instruct the child in how to get thrown like a rag doll as she's being ripped apart by the explosion as they would have in movies.
ReplyDeleteAlso love how activision removed the video.
@Digital Spooker
ReplyDeleteI was considering using 'Little Girl Goes BOOM!' as the title for this blog post, but I wussed out.
